Adopting from Pit Mountain Rescue involves  the following steps...

PMR’s adoption fee is $200: This fee helps cover the cost of spay/neuters, shots, heartworm testing and preventive, and daily cost of caring for our rescued dogs.

Completed Application: Applications are accepted from all over the US.

You must be 21 years of age or older to be considered as an applicant!

Follow-up phone calls: As we are all volunteers, please expect up to 24 hours after submitting an application to receive an email. We realize that this wait might be "inconvenient" but caring for and transporting the pits takes up a majority of our volunteers' time.

Reference Checks: No application is considered complete unless it contains both a veterinary reference as well as 3 personal references (not relatives). We do follow up on these and you should alert your personal references that they will receive a phone call from us. Reference checks will be completed BEFORE scheduling a home check.

Unaltered PetsWe do NOT adopt to anyone who has any pets in their home that are not neutered or spayed.  We have very strong feelings about the pet overpopulation and feel that all pets should be spayed and neutered to prevent overpopulation problems.  We also do not do same sex adoptions (ie: if you already own a male dog, you can not adopt a male from us) due to same sex aggression in Pit Bulls.

RentersWe will allow people who are renting to adopt. However, if you are renting, we do need to speak directly to your landlord and the landlord must send a handwritten agreement stating that you have permission to have a dog in your apartment or house.  This will need to be sent within one week of your online application submission.

Home CheckNo Pit Bull is adopted to a home without a home check...NO EXECPTIONS. If we do not have a volunteer in your area, we will locate another rescue or shelter that is able to do your home check portion of the adoption process for us.

Meeting a Pit Bull: Pit Mountain Rescue works to match each applicant with the "perfect" Pit. We can only do this through completed applications, phone calls, and home checks.

AdoptionAdoption donations are due at this time.  Our adoption fee is $200.  This fee helps cover the cost of spay/neuters, shots, heartworm testing and preventive, and daily cost of caring for our rescued dogs.

We also have a legal and binding adoption contract which must be signed and followed. We may request that applicants travel to pick up their Pit, this is much easier for the dog.

Adoption Follow-Ups: After adoption, expect to be contacted by a volunteer to check on the adjustment of the Pit Bull in his/her new home. We are available to answer ANY questions that you may have.

As you can see from the above, adopting from Pit Mountain Rescue does take time. Please do not expect to submit an application and be able pick up a dog immediately. We make every effort to hurry the process along, but please remember that we may have several applications for each adoptable Pit Bull and the volunteers do as much as possible ...your patience is appreciated.
